My Favorite Natural Cleaning Products

Do you suffer from asthma, hormonal imbalances, fertility issues? You are probably using hormone-disrupting cleaning products, hair products, and skin care products every day in your home. Using these products with toxic ingredients can affect your health and the environment in so many ways.

“Commercial cleaning products likely contain toxic chemicals. They contaminate the air with a mix of carcinogens, hormone disrupters, neurotoxic solvents, mood-altering chemicals, and reproductive toxins. Scientists regard household cleaning products as one of the most important sources of indoor pollution and one of the most insidious threats to human health.” Ethical Consumer

Are you aware of just how harmful the chemicals in most cleaning products can be to our bodies? Constant contact in your home with chemicals may play a big role in your health. I know these commercial cleaners seem to “get the job done,” but there are incredible nontoxic products out there that clean just as well (if not better) and don’t put your health at risk!

Three ingredients to always avoid? Parabens, Triclosan, and Phthalates. These are filled with hormone-disruptors, synthetic fragrances, carcinogens, irritation to the skin, linked to early puberty, and so much more!

I cannot challenge you enough to DO YOUR RESEARCH! Check the ingredients of all your products (not just cleaning products) and know what is an absolute NO before you buy something. I love checking products toxic rating on EWG and the ThinkDirty App. They rate products and detail why they have that rating! Another quick reminder, some brands have certain products that I approve of the ingredients, and then they have another product that has some ingredients I don’t want to be exposed in my home. That’s why research is so so important! 🙂

I’ve compiled a list of all my favorite natural cleaners that really work!!! Before I list out the products I use, I want to touch on two of the brands- Branch Basics and YoungLiving…

A little about Branch Basics:

I’ve been using Branch Basics for about a month now and have been loving this line! I recommend buying the starter kit with the oxygen boost. The oxygen boost works wonders, especially for brightening your laundry! THIS IS MY #1 RECOMMENDATION FOR THOSE OVERWHELMED BUT WANT TO BEGIN THE SWITCH TO MORE NATURAL PRODUCTS.With this starter kit you can clean every surface. Plus, the starter kit even comes with a laundry cleaner, and it really works! I was sceptical that using the concentrate for laundry would really clean my clothes, but it does!! This cleaner does it all!

What’s neat about Branch Basics is after your initial purchase you only have to repurchase the concentrate and oxygen boost when you run out. The back of each bottle has directions of how much concentrate to water ratio. I mainly use the oxygen boost for washing clothes. I add 1 scoop to every load for brightening! But, the oxygen boost has other uses for stains, etc. You can find all the ways to use branch basics on their User Guide– I printed this out to have on hand.

The only tiny complaint that bothers some people is that there is no fragrance. Fragrance-free is great for health reasons, but I know some people want that “clean house” smell! You could add some drops of your favorite essential oil (I like adding lemon) to get that fresh smell.

A Little About Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner:

Thieves cleaner is similar to the concept of Branch Basics. You buy a concentrate and then fill it according to the ratio on the back in your squirt bottle. I use this amber glass bottle. What is less appealing to me with thieves is that if I want to use it in specific rooms outside of the all-purpose cleaner (such as bathroom, floors, mirrors), then I’d have to change the ratio of thieves and water. Entirely possible- you could order multiple amber bottles, find out the ratios online for each surface you are cleaning, and label your bottles accordingly. Truthfully, I am a bit lazy about that. I’d rather the convenience of Branch Basics with individual containers for each surface and the ratios provided for me on the back!

I will say, the fresh smell of thieves is life changing! I usually keep my Thieves amber bottle in the kitchen area and use it for quick all-purpose cleanings such as countertops, Temple’s high chair, and toys. This is what works for me, but wanted to explain so that you can choose a cleaner with a little more info on how we do things in my house!! I also recommend using thieves more often during fall aka “flu season.” I find that it can really kill the big germs. I try to spray down Temple’s playroom toys regularly during the fall with this cleaner.

When ordering from Young Living, I’d really appreciate if you’d use my name Madison Lavey or member number: #10075924 at checkout!

On the other hand, in polluted cities, crowded areas and in confined spaces such as offices, industrial areas, schools and cars, you will find the highest concentration of unhealthy positive ions. The most important benefit of negative ions is that they clear the air of airborne allergens such as pollen, mold spores, bacteria and viruses. They also clear the air of dust, pet dander and cigarette smoke.” Dr. Courtney Kahla

  2. Love this post! I know you had also tried Force of Nature.. would you recommend Branch Basics over it? I would like to purchase one of them but can’t decide which one!

  3. Hi! Hope you’re doing good! I was trying to find if you had a post about getting rid of bed bugs by any chance? A natural more healthier way? Thanks
    Blessings ❤️

  4. Hi! I’m so glad I found this post! So many great suggestions. I have started using Branch Basics and love the products but do you have any recommendations for what to use in stainless steel? I find that the Branch Basics leaves a slight film.

    1. This has been tough for me too! I still use the branch basics even though it does leave a little film. I need to do some more digging for another option that is nontoxic.

  5. Hey! What specific surfaces do you decide thieves vs branch? I’m debating on switching to branch basics. And why do you choose to clean your baby toys with thieves instead of branch basics?
